The Championship Course has hosted seven Open Championships, one Ladies Open and two Senior Opens making it one of the very few to have done so in the UK. It is one of the three courses used for the annual Alfred Dunhill Links Championship that sees a host of celebrities and professional golfers descend on the course, the others being Kingsbarns and the Old Course in St Andrews. The Open Championship returns to Carnoustie in July 2018.
